When I decided to produce a radio show about the success of Tuk Tuks acting as a taxi service in Brighton, a few factors shaped my decision. Firstly, did I have the equipment to produce a show that would sound professional? Who was going to be my target audience? And finally, was the content of the show going to be realistic to record and not too ambitious?

There was never any doubt about the equipment, with CSV providing state-of-the-art minidisks, microphones, and studio facilities. As for my audience, I decided to make a show concerning a local issue that would target a local audience, and the content of the show did seem manageable. The topic interested me because reading about the Brighton Tuk Tuks in the local newspaper I noticed that Brightonians offered a whole range of opinions on the issue. Immediately I realised I was not going to be short of audio material. So I popped a microphone and mini-disc into my pocket and set off to interview enthusiastic Tuk Tuk drivers, curious Taxi Drivers and amused Brightonians about the scheme. Not to mention dragging a few of my friends along for a ride in a Tuk Tuk whilst attempting to provide a running-commentary of their thoughts concerning the vehicle as we sped along the bumpy streets of Brighton. It was great fun to produce and I am thankful to CSV for providing me with the excellent studio facilities and enthusiastic teaching which helped ensure an enjoyable and highly productive experience for me.

Using the experiences I have gained at CSV, I am in the process of applying to do an MA Radio course at Goldsmiths College, using the radio show I produced as part of my application. I am also contributing material to a BBC Southern Counties Radio show called 'Inside Lives'. For anyone wanting an introduction course in radio production I can think of no better course than the one offered by CSV.

City and Guilds

As part of their training for the City & Guilds certificate, trainees have to make some kind of promo or advert for a product, event or service. These provide a great opportunity for being creative with different sounds, as these examples show
